Updating and remodeling your home is something that needs to be done from time to time. As you grow so does your home. For example when you finish your basement. If that is something that was done after starting your insurance policy you may want to talk to your agent, as that most likely will increase the living space that was factored in when deciding on the replacement cost of your home. In case of a loss you want to make sure all living space is accounted for.
Another common change is upgrading that master bath. If you have taken a space and changed it from a normal builders grade bathroom, and put in that jetted tub and bidet. It is time to tell your agent, once again in the event of a loss you want to be properly insured.
Maybe your upgrades didn’t have to do with style, they were meant for savings. You went out and bought a pellet stove for the winter, or you thought solar panels would lower some costs. That is a great way to add value, but once again please call your agent otherwise these upgrades could not be covered in the event of a loss depending on how your policy was written.
