Though the winter weather is late this year, it will inevitably come. And along with winter comes the freezing cold that can damage your car and cause accidents. Here are some tips on how to protect you and your car in the cold weather.
Make sure you have enough fuel and antifreeze. Putting off refueling could leave you stranded, just as being low on antifreeze could cause your engine to lock up.
Ensure your brakes work. No matter what type of car you have, there will always be the threat of sliding on ice. To help reduce the chance of wrecking, make sure your brakes are functioning fine. Nobody wants the brakes to give out on a slippery slope.
Check your tires. If you are willing to spend a bit of money, you should have your tires switched around to keep them from wearing down in one spot or getting uneven tread that could weaken the tire’s grip.
Use the right windshield wiper fluid. Some may not know that there are different types of fluid for cleaning your windshield. Some are made specifically for cold weather so it is less likely to freeze.
Keep supplies in your car. No, it may not be a monster snowstorm, but it will feel like it if you get stranded. Keep things like extra food and water, blankets, and something to use to break out of your car. Things like jumper cables, shovels, or cat litter can also be useful to get your car moving again.
If you follow these tips, you might make it through the winter with your car intact. Find out more ways to protect your car!
