Summer is here and chances are, if you haven’t already, you will be going away for vacation. Something you need to do before you leave is make sure your vehicle is ready for the long journey. Below are some auto maintenance tips before you hop in your car this summer.
Auto Insurance: You never know what could happen, so one thing you want to do is make sure your auto insurance is up-to-date. Contact your insurance provider before you hit the road to review it.
Tire Pressure & Tire Tread: Before you hit the road, check your tire pressure and the wear of your tires. Warmer weather can affect the pressure, so check your owner’s manual to find out the specifications. Under or over-inflated tires could put you at risk of an accident, tire blowouts and even flat tires. Also, having the proper tire pressure can save you money at the pump! If the tread on them looks low, head to your local tire shop and find out if you need new tires before you leave.
Fluid Levels: Oil, coolant, transmission, differential, power steering and brake fluids should all be checked. If you’re due for an oil change, take care of that before you leave.
Brakes: Do your brakes produce a loud noise or scraping noise? Or does your brake pedal resist when you push on it? If you answered yes, it may be time to get your brakes changed. Brakes are not something you want to hold off on fixing, especially if your vacation is farther away!
With these simple auto maintenance tips you will be able to enjoy your summer vacation without worrying about something happening to your vehicle!
Have a great vacation and happy summer!
