With the warm summer weather, many people believe it is the perfect time to go out and visit family or go on a road trip, but it is just as important to prepare your car for the heat of summer as it is to winterize it. With that in mind, we put together a few car maintenance tips you may want to follow!
Maintenance – The best and first thing you should do to prepare for summer conditions is have your car checked and fixed. If any of your systems are broken or less than their best, have it fixed so it does not cause a problem in the middle of a busy highway.
Windshield wipers – Prepare yourself for summer showers by checking your windshield wipers frequently for smears or streaks. If it leaves water or smears, you need new windshield wipers.
Tires – Ensure that your tires have good grip and are inflated properly. Rain could cause the roads to become slippery and your car could hydroplane if your tires have little grip. Summer heat can also cause more tire blowouts due to the air inside the tires to expand.
Overheating – Summer heat can cause your engine to overheat, so make sure your car is well tuned to reduce these chances. If your engine starts to boil over, pull over, open the hood, and wait for it to cool down. The safest thing to do if your car or the weather endangers anybody is pull to the side of the road and turn on your emergency lights until conditions are better. Safe traveling!
