We’re full swing into summer and that means lots of picnics and events with your family and friends. Whether you’re hosting a picnic or attending it, food safety is important! Here are a few tips to remember.
Cook To Proper Temperatures
For meats, you want to make sure you’re cooking to the proper temperature before serving. Know what that temperature is and use a food thermometer to ensure you reached that minimum internal temp.
Be Aware of Foods and Temperatures
If you have the ability to keep foods indoors, that is strongly recommended. If not, be aware of the food that is at the picnic. Foods that need to be chilled, need to remain chilled. A great idea is placing them in something that allows there to be ice or ice packs under them. Hot foods should be kept in crockpots.
Manning the Grill
If you’re using a grill at your picnic, keep it top of mind. An average of 9,600 house fires are started from grilling outside. For more safety tips, check out our past blog.
